This one is going to be fun, not only because it is a cool car that Dennis and Deb put together years ago, but also because when Dennis and Alex started tearing into it to find out what the problems had been with it years and years ago, it turned out to not be a big deal at all. I mean at all at all. So Alex gave her dad a bunch of crap for parking this thing and leaving it, and now he’s all fired up to get this thing back into racing shape. But what kind of changes do you think Dennis will make to it this time?

Video Description:

You guys say you want more videos and more projects – and we’re delivering! Welcome to the new section of the Riding with Alex Taylor Channel, where more episode with different content will come out. We’re pulling out forgotten projects, ones left to sit, and starting new ones. And we’re kicking it off with this 41 Willys Gasser with a 392 Blown Alcohol Hemi! This is the LAST Willys that Deb and Den every laid up out of their molds. It became a tribute car to the iconic Stone Woods and Cooks Willys of the past, got dad back into racing, and then it got parked after the Hemi kept giving fits. This is a good one, so buckle up!

Tommy Lee Byrd, the Hot Rod Hoarder, is always finding killer hot rods and race cars in barns, fields, shops and wrecking yards and here is another one. This Austin Healey is really something special, or at least it was decades ago. With nearly everything on this thing custom, someone clearly put a ton of work into it. We wonder what the history is though. Can you help find it out?

Video Description:

This thing is ONE of a KIND and it’s been sitting outside for many decades! Somebody, somewhere poured their heart and soul into making this Austin Healey 3000 roadster into a WILD hot rod. It’s a full custom hot rod build with Chrysler torsion bar suspension, an Oldsmobile 215ci Aluminum V8, home made headers, CUSTOM transmission, and all sorts of custom body work. The windshield is the back glass from a Tri Five Chevy with a custom round tube frame. It has 14 inch steel wheels…3 of them. What a crusty old car…but what a story it must have. Join me in studying its wild details and let’s hope we can find some information and history on this thing!

Okay folks, this one is going to be something special. And it takes someone special to want to build something like this but we love Peter Bjorck for it! We’re not going to tell you what body this car is going to have on it, until you learn in the first video with us, but man this is going to be a bit of a sleeper. Sort of. The plan is for this to be a 25.2 SFI certified chassis that is all-wheel drive and powered by a Lamborghini V10 with twin turbos. We already know these are capable of crazy power and that means that in this lightweight car it really should be something special on the streets. I say streets because this car is specifically being put together to have a license plate and be driven to and from wherever he wants to take it. I can tell you that nothing would be cooler than for him to get this thing together and then bring it over for Rocky Mountain Race Week one year.

Dude.

So check out video number two in the series, and we’ll keep bringing you more as it comes together. This is really going to be something special like we said.

The Alfarrari project is coming along great, but it needs some enhancements and Jeff wanted a different intake manifold and just found one. This intake is going to allow for more symmetry under the hood and a new hood bulge that is going to be even cooler than the one that he had built before. Check out the improvements below and if you didn’t get to see all the previous videos, you can use the link below to check them out too.

There is so much going into building this little hot rod, and every single part of it is custom. After all, there are no kits to do this kind of thing so you have to build it all yourself if you want to do it right.

Watch and be inspired to get out and do more in your garage.

This is a little car, and it still has lots of little things to fix on it, but Jeff is surely knocking them out. I am really digging this one and can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

I found this project on YouTube and it has been going on for a couple of years now so we need to catch up! This is Jeff, and he builds cool stuff, and he decided that he wanted to build an Alfa 105, which I have no clue about, and stuff it full of Ferrari power. Sounds like a hot rod to me, so I’m in. We’re going to share anywhere from one to four videos at a time on this one to keep the ball rolling.

Here’s the sixth video of Steve’s Truck Week series! This time it’s a Diamond T. These were high dollar rigs back in the day. Check it out.

Our friend Steve Magnante has been out of commission for a few months as he’s literally been fighting for his life from a bad brain infection, but he’s back! You may know Steve from all his years in the magazine world where he wrote for a ton of great magazines like Hot Rod and Car Craft, but in recent years he’s been the rain man of muscle car and classics knowledge on Barrett-Jackson’s TV auction shows. He’s also been making great YouTube content of his own, walking through junkyards full of great finds and sharing all the info on cool old rides. But for the past several months we weren’t sure he was going to make it.

Thankfully, he had great doctors who didn’t give up on him even after putting him into a coma to try and fight this brain infection. To be honest, there were lots of folks who have known him for years who were not sure he’d pull through. I’m so thrilled to say that he is in fact on the mend and working at getting back to his normal self. He’s still in the hospital, but has some new content out and we’re going to share it with you right here, along with a message from Steve himself in the hospital.

I first met Steve more than 20 years ago on Hot Rod Power Tour and was lucky enough to work with him a few times over the years. He’s a real treasure, one hell of a guy, and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to be sharing these videos with you now.

Can you imagine the kind of fun you can have in a 1,000 horsepower machine that only weighs 2,200 pounds? Yeah, were’ talking about some serious power to weight ratio and when you consider that a Tesla Plaid making the same power weighs over 5,200 pounds, this thing should haul some serious ass. I’m sure it does all kinds of things the right way but it’s going to ruffle a few feathers here as well, because it is in fact electric. But I don’t care. Power is power and fun is fun and I’m sure all of us would love to tear this thing up even if we have to plug it in instead of filling it up.

Watch the first three videos in the build series and let us know what you think. Hate it? Let us know why. Love it? Let us know why.

Video Description:

Buffy the Tesla Slayer finally has some clothes on. In this episode we cover the fibreglass body which has now been installed on the race car. We also show off the rear brakes and have some decisions to make on the wheels and tyres.

In this episode we talk about wheels, wiring, cooling and spin up the Tesla motors in the car using the new wiring loom for the first time. Won’t be long now until this little VW Beetle looking electric powered monster will be tearing up some tarmac.

It’s windows time for the Alfarrari project, and while the glass has been there all along, there hasn’t been any way to raise and lower them electrically until now. But this isn’t a car you can just buy replacement electrics for, because it never came with them to begin with. But besides that, it’s also an Alfa which means there aren’t great kits for them either. Check out Jeff’s solutions as he puts front and rear electric windows in this Ferrari powered Alfa Romeo.

There is so much going into building this little hot rod, and every single part of it is custom. After all, there are no kits to do this kind of thing so you have to build it all yourself if you want to do it right.

Video Description: Part 1.

Here’s the first update on the race car build. So far we’ve offered up the Tesla motors and are figuring out how and where to mount them. Next step will be the battery pack locations and overcoming any issues that the motor locations have raised, like the steering problem mentioned in the video.

Video Description: Part 2.

In this update of Buff-E the Tesla powered race car we show the motors are installed and working. The first iteration to get it all going will be with a dual motor setup from a Tesla Model S P100D. Once everything is dialled in, and assuming we need more power, we’ll upgrade to a Tesla Plaid setup. In this video we also show the solution we came up with to overcome the motor being in the way of the original steering column. Next video we’ll hopefully have the Beetle bodywork on so it’ll start to look more like a car.

Video Description: Part 3.

It’s time for an update on the Tesla powered race car project. In this episode we cover the front brakes, driveshafts and battery boxes along with some other bits and pieces.

I love it when you can take a solid old car and give it a little bit of a spit shine and some careful touches and make it look like something truly special. So when I saw this latest video from Derek at Vice Grip Garage, I was pretty excited to see how this 1948 Studebaker turns out. A wash, buff, maybe a touch of paint, and some tires and this bad boy just might start looking like a hot rod. If it were mine I’d lower the thing a bit up front so it had a cool rake and then I’d drive the hell out of it. I feel like projects like this are the kind that inspire me to get to work on my own projects. How about you? Do you guys find these to be inspiring?
