Some folks aren’t into hard core patina’d rides like the rest of us, but can absolutely appreciate a low mileage survivor that has a couple small blemishes in the shine, especially when the rest of that ride has been done up just right. That’s exactly what is going on with this 1965 C10. The gang at Ridetech put together a bitchin coil-over suspension system for it to give it the right stance and then the rest was just cleaned and shined to bring out the best of it. This truck is a real deal California truck with just 90,000 miles on it.

I’m a Suburbanmen. I grew up with a Suburban, I’ve owned several, and I have one now that is a project. Mine is a square body, but an OBS is one of my other favorites and this one here is AMAZING. It’s the holy grail of OBS Suburbans because it has a big block, 4l80, full float 14 bolt rear, and all the creature comforts inside. Best of all, it has never been touched inside. The only modifications are to the engine and drivetrain and they are with really good parts and pieces so this thing runs mint, makes more power than stock, and will tow whatever you want to pull with all your friends and family inside. It’s almost too nice honestly, but if I had the money this thing would be in my driveway.

It’s for sale for $17,500, which is probably a bit high, but I bet you can make a deal on it if you hurry. Although as nice as this thing is, who knows if there will be a bidding war on it.

Seller’s Description: C2500 2wd Silverado pkg 454/4L80 8 passenger seating, this truck is in really good condition with zero body rust, hood & roof have been refinished at some point but rest of the body looks to be original. All doors open & close really nice & rear glass hatch/release & gate all work. Interior is super nice as well, no rips, tears or burns. Headliner is nice & tight with no damage, sun visors are a little rough & does have a dash cap. All options are operational with exception of a couple of very minor items, the cigarette lighter even works. Heat works great, A/C upgraded to R134 & blows cold. Engine upgraded to Rebuilt Vortec Gen 6 L21 RV/Kodiak version. Many new parts prior to upgrade & many more replaced during engine upgrade. All work was professionally done at a local shop, this truck runs & drives great. She’s not perfect but overall this truck is in really nice condition & has been well maintained with no signs of abuse!

I have owned a couple of vehicles with split rims. Known as “suicide rims” because of the fact that the outer ring can fly off and kill the guy mounting the tires, they are not a popular item to drag to a tire shop. In fact, it took me eight tries to even find a place willing to look at them for me when I needed new rubber installed on them. It takes an old hand and an experienced one to handle those wheels, evaluate them and decide if they can even be used again, let alone safely. For those of you who have never experienced or learned about split rims, this video is neat. These guys are restoring an ancient Diamond T truck and the wheels have come back from the shop they were at with new tires on them.

Now, the wheel discussion is cool but the really interesting thing is how they mount them on the truck and get them runout right! You want to talk about something wild, even smashing the tires back on your car or truck was a pain in the ass back in the day, this is proof positive.

Knowledge like we see in this video is fading, it seems. Perhaps that is the nature of the business but there are less and less people capable of dealing with a split rim or who know how to properly mount a tire as we will see on this truck so it drives down the road nicely. Hell, there are still younger guys making steam engines work these days so maybe there will also be a small cadre of enthusiasts who still understand the ways of the past as most move on to the newer and the “better”.

This is not a slam bang video but it is one that we think gear heads will find interesting. Give it a watch.

(Photos from Detroit Library Digital Collection) – One of the things we love looking at in these old photos that we have been periodically showing you are the backgrounds of the various scenes. The country looked so much different 100 years ago. So many trees, so many fields, so much openness. There are still areas of the country like that, obviously the midwest has space for days but when you get near the coasts, the world gets all mashed up on itself and tight, right? While it is fun to look at the photos and think about how awesome it would have been to be on the adventures that some of these guys were on, an honest dose of reality is kind of sobering as well.

If you look at the lead photo, you are seeing a truck that has broken down in the bayou country of Louisiana. This would have been an area 100 years ago where there were no hotels, no parts stores, no cell phones, maybe no blacksmith for 50 miles, and yet the guys needed to get their stuff fixed and forge on. There’s an element of fun adventure and then there is also an element of unending dread when every day became a plodding slog though muck and crud that was constantly trying to swallow the trucks whole. It would be fun for a little while but not months on end we suspect.

Simple, tough, and cool, these old trucks were proving, one mile at a time, that the USA needed a highway system befitting of its new culture of motorized transport. The guys that made these trips were a special breed and the trucks they made the trips in are the stuff of legend.

One of the things I love about the Hand Tool Rescue channel is that the guy doesn’t just do great work, he does that work on tools and devices I never knew existed. Take this video for example. The subject is a pneumatic reciprocating saw designed to be used underwater! We’re guessing stuff like bridge building, dock repair, pier maintenance and other unique jobs would require an underwater saw. There’s also the idea that this thing could be outfitted with different blades for the job it was performing. The idea here is that this saw’s blade was likely designed for ice work as the tooth pattern does not seem right for cutting wood or other materials.

As usual, we see the tool as a whole, we see all of its parts, the work done to make them perfect again, the reassembly, and ultimately the operational tool at the end of the process. This is one of the funnier conclusions we get out of a video from this channel so make sure you stick around for it.

We are always blown away by the action to detail, like the fact that Mr. Hand Tool replaces the factory decals with perfect re-pops or maybe they are NOS but either way, who knew that you’d even be able to get them ever again. It seems like an obscure tool but maybe it’s just weird to us because we’d never seen one before.

The work is great and the results are even better!

If you have been following Project Hay Hauler for the past few years, then you know that this truck has gone through a ton of modifications over the years. Scott Liggett first found it on a weekend drive and once it was in his possession he immediately started working on it. At first, it was small things, like some wrecking yard seats and console, then it went to engine and transmission love. From there the suspension and brakes got some attention. Then it was a different engine, a different transmission, and ultimately an amazing COVID teardown and rebuild. That rebuild was only supposed to be for some floor and rocker rust repair but snowballed into a full-blown chassis restoration that included converting it to a short bed. The bottom of this bad boy is amazing looking too.

If you missed any of the previous installments on Project Hay Hauler, then use the link below.

CLICK HERE IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN ALL THE PROJECT UPDATES

Someone is going to get lucky and take this truck home with them to make their own memories. Scott is selling it to help fund other projects and we know that whoever gets it will love it. I’ve driven this truck and can tell you that it would make a great daily, weekend cruiser, or whatever you’d like. The patina is great, but this truck is still enough of a blank canvas to add whatever you might want to make it your own. Check it out by clicking the link to Bring A Trailer below.

From 1990 through 2008, the Toyota Land Cruiser J80 ruled the Earth. Well, that may be overstating it, but the J80 generation of these trucks were sold all over the world in varying configurations. In 1993, the 4.5L inline six that would be the staple power plant arrived on the scene and woke the performance of the behemoth some. No, they were never fast but I have a weird sweet spot of love for these rigs in my heart. I love the design, the look, the big beefy tires that they wore from the factory, and the point that they had legit chops off road. These were the Japanese answers to the Range Rover and I think  they were cooler in every way.

This video is neat not just because of the J80 angle but because it shows us how far we both have and have not come when the discussion turns to SUVs. In the roaring performance sector, today’s SUVs beat the brakes off of stuff like he Land Cruiser. The 215hp that this truck has were solid for the day, but there just were enough gears behind it to really get the load moving, or to get the fuel economy out of the doldrums. Physics continue to be a problem for SUVs. Huge box with rounded corners is not efficient. It was not in 1993 and it ain’t in 2020.

The interior is baller for the era and frankly we think it is more classy than lots of SUVs today. You definitely knew you were in a luxury rig when you got into this sucker.

Gimme the fender bulges, gimme those big wheels and tires, and gimme a trail to take this thing for a ride on. Annnnd now I am going to see if I can find one for sale.

I am not the truck guy around here, yet I want this thing in a bad, bad way. Chad will probably see the potential and be on board. But what I’m hoping for is that Lohnes sees this 1966 Dodge Power Wagon/1994 International combination and decide that it’s been too long since he’s had something so big, so brawny, and so badass in his life that he has to pull the trigger on it. Okay, it isn’t a lumbering Chevy or GMC, like he’s had in the past. But who says he can’t try out both Mopar and Ford-influenced flavors in one shot? The looks of a Sweptline Dodge are right up his alley and a 1994 International with a DT466 and a five-speed Spicer trans not only covers his need for a transmission that requires an RSVP for each shift, but should run interstate speeds and even knock back decent-enough fuel mileage. And that’s something I’m willing to bet Brutus nor Goliath ever did back in the day.

The only things I’m on the fence about are easy fixes. I’d do something different with the front bumper. I’m not sure exactly what, but whatever it is, it should tie into some kind of fender flare for the front wheels. But other than that? Just picture this thing hauling tail down the road with a three-car dovetail that has a Duster, a D100 and a Diplomat ex-cop car on the back. Or whatever you’re into. Oh, one more thing: add air horns. HONK, HONK, BITCHES!

When I saw this thing for sale I was amazed at how nice it is, without being a restored truck. The patina is awesome, it is really straight considering how old it is, and it would be such a cool thing to have even if all it did was sit next to your shop. I love it, and if I had a bunch of money I’d own it just to park it and make it look awesome.

According to the seller it actually runs, which shouldn’t surprise us given the fact that these straight six engines never seem to die. Some BANGshifter needs this one, so buy it and let us come over and make engine noises with it.

Seller’s Description:

1941 Chevy tanker truck all original has its original motor that runs but needs maintenance very little rust the patina on it is amazing.
