The Make It Kustom Model A Ford project is one that regular fans of the channel will know very well. This thing has been used for all kinds of cool tech videos on metal shaping and so much more. We dig this project and think it will be awesome when done. In this video, Karl is going through the process of getting everything steering related in it. That’s fairly straight forward, but this car is ultra custom so that means you can’t just toss the parts at it and hope they install themselves. Watch.

I’ve recently seen some cars that seemed impossible to bring back to life end up being beautiful rides. With the amount of restoration parts available, you can build a lot of muscle cars from scratch nowadays, with zero factory parts. To be honest, it has made it so that cars that otherwise would have been considered a total loss can be brought back to life if the vin and firewall and title are good. Everything else can be cut off and replaced!

So when Dylan asks if his 1969 Charger can be brought back to life after sitting all these years, I say SURE! Check out the first video in the build.

In this video from the Custom Dash series, Karl is taking the dash he has been custom forming and installs it into the model A using a technique called Stack A Tack. You are going to want to watch this if you want to improve your welding skills and are into metal shaping. And if you missed the previous videos in this series, don’t worry because we have a link below that will take you to all of them. After shaping all the components for this Model A Dash, it is time to connect them all together by stacking MIG welds along all the seams. This is going to not only create a strong weld and structure but also give you material to shape and mold so that it all looks like one piece.

In typical Karl Fisher style, he does a great job of explaining not only how to do it, but why. Along with when is the right time for this technique. Check it out below.

With all the work that has gone into this thing to make it run and drive for the first time in 50 years, it is great to see that the IronTrap boys are also making sure it looks like the hot rod that the originally builder probably envisioned. With the front and rear lowering job and the new 331 Caddy for power, one of the other things that it needs is a bit of a top chop. So that is exactly what they are going to do in this video. Check it out.

In a previous videos we shared the 1938 Ford Convertible Hot Rod that the guys at Iron Trap Garage found stashed away in an old garage, gave a first wash, and discovered had a seized engine. But lucky for them, they had a bitchin 331 Caddy they scored that would work great after some firewall massaging. Then the rear axle to get some love cause this thing was not good, and they lowered the rear in the process. If you missed any of the previous videos in this series, use the link below to check them all out.

You have to think that if there are barn finds of all kinds that still show up today, not all of them are going to just be regular driver cars. What I mean by this is that some of them have to be hot rods too, right? I realize that you’d think most of the hot rods would keep being passed along, but I know I’ve got projects that haven’t seen the light of day in 10 years, so it is conceivable that this same thing could happen to other folks hot rods and that we’ll have barn find hot rods too. And that is exactly what happened with this 1938 Ford Convertible. It hasn’t been on the road since 1973 and is a hot rod that had an engine swap and more.

Designing and building parts for your project car or truck is sometimes really complicated, but usually pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, some folks get so caught up in the what ifs that they end up with “analysis paralysis” and can’t even get themselves going for fear that it will be hard. In these cases they never even get to see it through far enough to realize it isn’t hard and then go without. That sucks. So around here we like to inspire you to work on your ride and to fabricate stuff whenever you can. It’s fun, it builds your skills, and it helps you to inspire others as well.

In this video from our friends at Willomet Motor and Fab, they are building a lightbar mount for the awesome square body Suburban so that they can fit a new Baja Designs 8XL light bar above the windshield. Watch, be inspired, and then going out and build your own.

Video Description:

Let there be light! This time, I’m building a very custom mount for a Baja Designs 8XL light rack, and make use of a handful of tips and techniques that save time and improve quality. Also, I’m doing to curve (radius) a tube in the process using a new tool from Swag Offroad. It’s 100% hand built, no lasers or outsourcing, so let’s get back to the roots of fabricating.

For decades, off-roaders have been building new suspension systems under old rigs, and have been doing engine swaps as well. And in the hot rodding world folks have been doing the same thing, but with a slight twist. It’s super common for muscle car builds to include late model Corvette suspensions and the like, and in some instances like my 1956 Chevrolet station wagon, complete chassis swaps are the answer. So why not take a late model 4×4 chassis and slide it under a classic older off-road rig like a Scout? Well that is exactly what Ian at Big Tire Garage is doing, as he’s modifying a late model Jeep chassis to slide under the Scout for better suspension, braking, and more.

The first video below is how he went about lengthening the stock Jeep chassis, and the second one is how he goes about getting the Scout to fit on it.

Video Description:

I love “old iron” for an off road rig, but I like them even more when you can drive em on the road every single day and then hit the trail and when Jeep created the JK that vehicle set the standard for a dual purpose vehicle.

So if you want to looks of a classic….and the amenities of a modern 4×4 what can you do? Easy, swap a Jeep JK frame under the classic body, best of both worlds….and here is how ya do it.

If you missed Part 1 and 2 of this 1953 Chevrolet truck chop, we’ve got a link below to make sure you see them too. In Part 3, he takes what most would say is the quick and easy route to try and finish up the roof section of the top chop and unfortunately it bites him. But lucky for us that is the lesson we need and we see how to fix the mistake and learn some stuff that will save you tons of time and energy on your own project’s sheet metal.

I’m a sucker for a chopped top on a 54 and earlier car or truck, but have never actually done one myself. I’ve fixed some bad sheet metal and welding on a couple, but never actually chopped something that was perfectly fine to start with. So when I see someone cutting stuff up, it makes me happy and jealous and I know it does the same thing for you guys. So in this video from Carter Auto Restyling, a new 1953 Chevrolet truck project is coming together and that means chopping the top. A bunch. But is a bunch too much? I’m excited to see just how this thing will look when it is all finished, but you’ll get a real rundown on how to plan for one right here. This is a cool project, and who doesn’t love this body style of Chevy pickup? Round fenders are cool and I think I’m going to want one of these before this series is over.

Check it out and let us know what you think.

Now that Brent is done with the shape of the bed, he’s moving on to the rockers on this truck. Factory it would have come with running boards, and without them there is something missing on the side of the truck. But since it is going to be sitting flat on the ground when parked, he’s wondering if there is really any reason for them. Instead he’s trying out some custom rockes/side skirts. But he can’t decide whether they are right or not. Watch and let us know what you think. Should he keep them, or go for running boards?

This project is one that Brent has had sitting around for some time and has just been waiting to get back onto it. It isn’t your average 1949 GMC, as it is mounted on a modified Caprice chassis and has had the top chopped off of it. The plan is for it to have a removable Carson style top, lots of custom metal work, and more. It’s going to be a full custom style ride but that means it needs A LOT of work. One thing I find funny is that while in most circumstances you want to start a project with the cleanest and straightest ride you can, but when you are building a custom that is going to get a lot of custom metal work anyway, then why not start with something rough? This truck certainly qualifies.

In previous videos, Brent pancaked the hood on this thing, modified the fenders, planned out the bumper, shortened the chassis, shaved stuff, built a one off custom bed and more. There is a lot going on with this project and a lot planned for this thing, although to say that might make you think there is a whole list of what is going to happen to it. But that isn’t exactly Brent’s speed. He works as he goes, tries stuff to see how it looks, and will cut and weld and remove and replace, until it has the look he wants. We love it and it is inspiring.

Here’s Part 2 of the chassis work on Leo’s 1936 Ford, and in this one the custom rear frame rails are coming together along with the rear suspension, including a custom 4-link, bag and shock brackets, and more. Bellos uses their small CNC plasma table to the fullest, and Mike is designing the rear frame rails so that they can be cut and formed with the press brake to make cool tubular rails that narrow the rear for more tire and will allow the entire thing to sit flat on the ground. There is some great fabrication going on here, so check it out in the latest video below. And if you missed the first video, make sure you use the link to see the one you might have missed.

The Bellos Kustoms crew are jamming on another project and this time it’s a little different. They’re taking what looks like a pretty clean 1936 Ford Chassis and building an LS swapped, air ride equipped, low down hot rod out of it. That means prepping the chassis, measuring, cutting, and more and that’s before any of the actual fabrication got started. There are some surprises on this one when it comes to rust so some repairs are needed before the real fun can begin. But that real fun is going to include a lot.

It’s getting a step notch out back so it can lay on the ground when parked, and that also means custom rear suspension. In order to fit everything underneath, a custom x member will have to be built as well since the factory one is junk and will just get in the way.

And that doesn’t even account for the LS swap that will make WAY more power than this thing was ever expected to live with and so all of that has to be taken into account. It’s going to look traditional on the outside and be modern and powerful underneath, so watch as they go through Part 1 of the chassis build, with more to come.
